J&K election: Congress, NC seal alliance for all 90 seats

The National Conference and Congress have sealed an alliance for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. They will fight together for all 90 seats, News18 reported.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge were in Srinagar to meet party leaders and workers ahead of the elections. They met Congress president Farooq Abdullah and former chief minister Omar Abdullah at his residence.

“The alliance is on track and will function smoothly,” Farooq Abdullah told PTI after meeting Gandhi and Kharge.

“We along with Rahul Gandhi had a warm courtesy meeting with Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah in Srinagar today,” Kharge posted on X.

Farooq backed Gandhi’s remarks on restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. He told reporters, “I told them that statehood is important for all of us. We have promised it. This state has been through some bad times. We hope that the state will get full autonomy and we support INDIA Alliance in everything related to that.”

He also denied having answered questions about the challenge to the polls. “It’s better that you don’t ask me that question. I’m not going to answer it,” he added.

Jammu and Kashmir will vote in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1. The result will be announced on October 4.
