‘Jo Kolkata Mein Hua Waisa Hi…’: Nagpur auto driver threatens girls, gets beaten up by mob

Nagpur: In Nagpur, Maharashtra, two schoolgirls confronted and beat up an auto-rickshaw driver after he threatened to “do the same thing” to them as had happened to a medical intern in CalcuttaThe doctor was raped and murdered while on duty in RG Kar College of Medicine in Kolkata on August 9, sparking nationwide protests by the medical community.

According to reports, a heated argument broke out between the girls and the driver of the vehicle after he asked them to speak in a low voice. The situation quickly escalated when the driver allegedly threatened the students, saying, “I will do to you the same thing that happened to the girl in Kolkata.”

Shortly after, the students demanded that the driver stop the vehicle. As soon as he did, the girls forcibly pulled him out and started beating him. People nearby noticed the argument and, after learning of the driver’s threats, joined them and beat him up as well.

A video of the incident, which has now gone viral on social media, shows the driver of the car being beaten by the crowd. In the video, a woman can be seen consoling one of the girls, assuring her that she is safe, we are all with you. Soon after, as the crowd urged her to retaliate, the girl started slapping the driver.

The incident took place near Pardi police station in Nagpur on Tuesday but gained notoriety after a video of the incident went viral. Police have assured that strict action will be taken after an investigation.

In a related incident, a case has been registered in Mankhurd area of ​​Mumbai after a female doctor was threatened and assaulted by a group of youths. The situation escalated when a 16-year-old boy parked his motorbike in front of the doctor’s clinic. When the doctor asked him to move his vehicle, the youth allegedly threatened her saying, “Remember the Kolkata case?”

The complainant, who is the husband of the doctor, informed the police that the incident took place on Saturday at his clinic in Sathe Nagar, Mankhurd. After the initial argument with the doctor, the boy, along with others, threatened and assaulted her. The complainant mentioned that parking problems are a daily problem, but they never imagined that the situation would reach this level.

A case has been registered against four persons, including a woman, under Sections 118(1), 115(2), 74, 79, 351(2), 352, 324(4) and 3(5) of the BNS.

Calcutta rape and murder case

On August 9, a junior doctor was raped and murdered while on duty at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, triggering nationwide protests by the medical community. The incident has brought the issue of women’s safety to the forefront, with doctors and nurses protesting to demand justice for the deceased, who was found half-naked in the seminar room.

Following the incident, the Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer the next day. Dissatisfied with the way the Kolkata Police handled the case, the Calcutta High Court ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation.

The prime suspect in the case, Sanjay Roy, was sent to 14-day judicial remand and one-day judicial custody by the CBI. The CBI conducted polygraph tests on seven people in connection with the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case. Those who underwent the lie detector tests include the main accused, former director Sandeep Ghosh, four doctors and another person.
