The preparations for the elections were discussed at the Nuakhai meeting organised at the BMS-affiliated Rourkela Steel Factory Employees Union (RIX) located in Sector-4 on Sunday. Union Tribal Affairs Minister and Sundergarh MP Jual Oram, MP Raghunathpali Durgacharan Tanti and former Union Minister Dilip Rai participated in the programme and congratulated Nuakhai and discussed the victory of BMS in the RSP-recognised union elections. The match between MP and MLA wins: Juel
Union Minister Jual Oram has said that Rourkela has a history that whoever is the MP and MLA here wins the recognised union elections as well. So he called on the workers to tighten their belts and start preparing to ensure BMS’ victory in the elections to be held in the coming days. Raghunathpali MLA Durga Charan Tanti said that he is first a RICS worker. So he will be engaged full-time in campaigning for the union in the coming days. Former union minister Dilip Rai advised all the workers to prepare for the union elections. Even at the time of elections, he himself will stay here for five days and campaign. Leader Ranjan Patel said that the struggle that RICS is continuing to get the pending arrears of 39 months and the cap on gratuity will have to be extended to all the employees at the Trinamool level. By doing this we will definitely win. The union’s general secretary Himanshu Bal said that our aim is to get the union elections recognised at the upcoming Rourkela steel plant. If the elections are won, the judicial process will also be easy. Therefore, all the workers will have to work together. The working president of the Indian Steel Workers’ Federation, Rajendra Mahant, was also present on the stage. Executive president Surendra Kansari presented the vote of thanks. Last year, RSP employees received a bonus of Rs 23,000.
In the year 2022, the steel workers got the maximum bonus of Rs 40,500. Management talks were held with representatives of five unions of NJCS, INTUC, AITUC, BMS, CITU and RMS, on October 17, just three to four days before Durga Puja for 2023. The unions had demanded a bonus of more than Rs 40,500. But the management did not accept the demand and deposited a bonus of Rs 23,000 in the bank accounts of the employees. So, no NJCS union has yet opened its letters on how the steel workers can be given a respectable bonus this time.
