The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘yellow alert’ for six districts of Kerala on Monday as moderate rains continue across the state. As per the district rainfall forecast released by the Meteorological Department on Sunday, a ‘Yellow Alert’ was issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts on Monday.
The Department of Meteorology uses four colors to issue weather alerts in the country. These colors and their messages are… Green (no action required), Yellow (be alert and monitor), Orange (be prepared), and Red (action/assist required). The meteorological department has also forecast light to moderate rain of five to 15 mm per hour and strong winds with speeds of up to 40 km per hour in parts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts.

According to IMD data, heavy rainfall occurred in many parts of the state till 5.30 pm on Sunday. The observatories recorded 93 mm rain at Kannur airport, followed by 28 mm rain at Palakkad, 13 mm rain at Karipur airport, 7 mm each at Alappuzha and Kannur and 5 mm rain at Punalur.
Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) and Automatic Rain Gauges (ARG) recorded 71 mm of rain in Anakkayam (Malappuram district), 64 mm in Panniyur (Kannur district) and 62.5 mm in Panathur (Kasaragod district). Udumbannur in Idukki district recorded 50.5 mm rain, while Nilambur, Palemad and Munderi in Malappuram district recorded 35.5 mm, 23 mm and 20 mm rain respectively. Peringome (Kannur district) received 22.5 mm rain and Karapuzha (Wayanad district) received 21 mm rain.
