Laapataa Ladies has been directed by Kiran Rao.
Ladies Laapataaadirected by Kiran Rao Produced by Aamir Khan, it features a relatively new star cast including actors Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta and Sparsh Shrivastav, along with Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam. It released in March this year and became a sleeper hit for exploring themes like young brides, women empowerment and social inequality.
Director Kiran Rao spoke exclusively to Zoom about the achievement.
The Chief Justice of India visited the ladies of Laapataa. Isn’t that a small honour?
It is a great honor for our film and on behalf of my entire cast and crew, I am grateful and proud for this opportunity to screen our film at the Supreme Court.
How was the experience?
It was truly surreal. We were welcomed with great warmth by the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, his wife Mrs Kalpana Das, and the entire Supreme Court team. We had the opportunity to observe the proceedings in the Chief Justice’s court, interact with eminent judges like Justice Nagarathna and Justice Hrishikesh Roy, and participate in the screening at the Supreme Court auditorium and the post-screening interaction.
This sounds surreal
But that’s not all. We were kindly welcomed into CJI Chandrachud’s home for dinner, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life!
Did you ever think that Laapataa women would have such long legs?
Well, I was hoping that the film would resonate with the public and last a long time, but I was not expecting such affection at all. This affection for the film and the themes it addresses is a genuine reaction, for which I am extremely grateful.
Ladies Laapataaa It was released in theaters on March 1, 2024. It was later released on Netflix on April 26 of this year.
