Calcutta: Following the rape and murder of a young doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, the victim’s parents said they had lost confidence in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He says he has lost confidence after seeing the way the police handled the case. The father said in an interview to a news channel that at least CBI is trying in this case. He also handed over a page from his daughter’s diary to the CBI but refused to talk about its contents.

While giving information about the incident, the mother of the deceased recounted how she first received a call from the hospital informing her that her daughter was ill. They were then told that her daughter had committed suicide. She said that when she reached the hospital, she was not allowed to see her daughter’s body. When she was shown later, she had no clothes on her body, her hand was broken and blood was flowing from her eyes and mouth. The mother of the deceased said that we first received a call from the hospital saying that her daughter was ill, then they cut the call. After that, when I called and asked what had happened, I was asked to come to the hospital. When we called again, (the caller) introduced himself as the assistant superintendent and said that her daughter had committed suicide. We received this call at 10:53 p.m.

They allowed us to see him at 3 o’clock
The victim’s mother further said that when we got there, we were not allowed to see her. We were allowed to see him at 3 o’clock. His pants were open. There was only a cloth on his body. His hand was broken. Blood was coming out of his eyes and mouth. She said that just by looking at him, it looked as if someone had murdered him. I told them that it was not suicide but murder. We worked very hard to make our daughter a doctor, but she was murdered.

Questions raised about Mamta’s action
The victim’s mother expressed her displeasure with the progress made in the case so far and said that she did not think the police had done a good job. She is sure that many more people are involved in this incident. On the call of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, she said that she (Mamata Banerjee) said that the culprit will be arrested as soon as possible, but so far nothing has happened. One person has been arrested. I am sure that there are many more people involved in this incident. I feel that the entire department is responsible for this incident. The police did not do a good job at all. I think the Chief Minister is trying to stop the protest; she imposed Section 144 here today so that people cannot protest.

Lathi accuses those who demand justice
When asked about the investigation conducted by the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, the victim’s father said that he had full faith in them initially but not now. She demands justice but from whose mouth is she saying it? She can investigate this matter herself but she is not doing anything. He said that she is saying that we want justice. But these people are silencing the general public who are saying the same by lathi-charge. However, he did not directly mention the assault that took place during the football match where the fans had raised slogans saying “we want justice”.

All of Mamata Banerjee’s schemes are a show-off.
For the rest of the residents of the state, the victim’s mother warned that all Mamata Banerjee’s schemes like Kanyashree Yojana, Lakshmi Yojana are all a farce. Whoever wants to avail the benefits of these schemes, first check whether their Lakshmi is safe at home or not.

Those who were supposed to ensure the daughter’s safety did not fulfill their responsibility
Asked what he thought about his daughter not being attacked by a man, the father said, “We have been saying the same thing all along.” Everyone we spoke to, even MBBS doctors, agreed that this is not a single man’s cup of tea. He said the saddest thing about the whole matter is that the people who were supposed to ensure his daughter’s safety failed to fulfil their responsibilities.
