Kolkata doctor rape and murder: Delhi AIIMS doctors protest to hold hearing at Nirman Bhawan | India News

New Delhi: The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi has announced that it will continue its strike as its demands remain unmet. The doctors’ group is protesting against the rape and murder of a resident doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The RDAAIIMS added that emergency services and ICUs will continue to function.

RDAAIIMS shared a post on microblogging site X stating that they would be providing elective OPD services outside the Nirman Bhawan, which houses the Health Ministry, as part of their protest. The OPD will begin on Monday from 11 am

“Resident doctors will be available to provide elective OPD services from around 36 specialties, including medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and others to patients outside Nirman Bhawan,” it said in a statement.

“We want to highlight the lack of safety for healthcare professionals across the country. We urge the government to accept our request for an urgent central ordinance for the safety and protection of healthcare workers and facilities,” the statement reads.

“We request the authorities to allow the same and provide necessary arrangements for elective outpatient services outside Nirman Bhavan,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has initiated ex officio proceedings in connection with the rape and murder of a doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear the case on August 20.

On August 9, the body of the medical student was found in the hospital’s seminar room.
