Kolkata doctor rape and murder case:The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) released former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr Sandip Ghosh, after around 13 hours of questioning on August 17. He was also questioned for 15 hours on August 16 (Friday) by the officials.

Sandip Ghosh was reportedly summoned by the CBI on August 18 (Sunday). He was asked to appear before the agency at 11:00 am.

Earlier in the day, amid nationwide protests condemning the rape and murder of a junior doctor, former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh arrived at the Central Bureau of Investigation office in Kolkata on Saturday and said to stop spreading rumours that he had been arrested by the investigating agency.

A CBI team, including the Deputy Director and Additional Director, also reached the CBI’s Special Crimes Branch at the CGO complex in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, doctors are continuing their protests across the country against the rape and murder of a second-year junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College. Resident doctors at the Civil Hospital in Rajkot staged a protest against the incident at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Residents and doctors also protested in Ahmedabad before the Indian Medical Association (IMA) over the rape and murder incident in Kolkata. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has declared a 24-hour suspension of services of all modern medicine doctors in the country, irrespective of sector and place of work, in response to the nationwide outrage over the rape and murder of a second-year medical trainee at RG Kar Medical College.
