Kolkata rape-murder case: IMA suspends former RG Kar Hospital director Sandip Ghosh amid CBI probe | India News

New Delhi: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has suspended Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, amid the CBI probe into his alleged involvement in the rape and murder of a junior doctor earlier this month.

In a recent order, the Indian Medical Association announced that a committee, set up by IMA national president Dr RV Asokan, has reviewed the rape and murder case involving a post-graduate resident doctor and the subsequent events at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

“The undersigned along with the National President also visited the parents of the victim at their home. They had raised their grievances against you (Ghosh) for the handling of the situation as well as the lack of empathy and sensitivity in handling the matter in an appropriate manner befitting the responsibility you bear in your dealings with them,” the order said, ANI reported.

“The state branch of IMA Bengal as well as certain medical associations have also demanded action citing the nature of disrepute you have brought to the profession as a whole,” he said.

The order also said the IMA’s disciplinary committee “unanimously decided to suspend him forthwith from membership of the Indian Medical Association.”

On August 26, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concluded a second round of polygraph tests on former director of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH), Sandip Ghosh, as part of its probe into the rape and murder of a female doctor at the institution.
