Kolkata rape-murder case: Polygraph tests conducted on accused, CBI searches for financial irregularities | India News

New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers on Sunday conducted a lie detector test on prime accused Sanjay Roy in connection with their probe into the rape and murder of a doctor of the state-run RG Kar Medical College. The test was conducted at the Presidency Jail in Kolkata, where Roy is currently lodged, the officer said.

The CBI also conducted searches at several places in connection with its investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the hospital.

The central agency’s officials also conducted polygraph tests on several people at their Kolkata office, he said, PTI reported, adding that the test on Roy was over after about four hours.

On Saturday, four people, including former RGKMCH director Sandip Ghosh, underwent polygraph tests.

The CBI has sought permission from a local court in Kolkata to conduct lie detector tests on seven people, including Roy and the former director of RGKMCH. While the results of these tests cannot be used as evidence during the trial, the findings give the agency a direction for future investigation.

A team of polygraph specialists from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi, who flew to Kolkata, conducted the tests.

Roy, a 33-year-old civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was arrested on August 10, a day after the body of the 31-year-old doctor was discovered in the seminar room of the medical college.
