‘Kolkata Rape-Murder Case Victim’s Parents Under House Arrest By Police’: West Bengal Congress Chief

West Bengal Congress Speaker and former Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury On Saturday, police accused the parents of the allegedly raped and murdered doctor of keeping him under “house arrest.” Chowdhury, who visited the deceased doctor’s house and spoke to his parents, also claimed that police had offered money to the father to cremate the body quickly.

“I visited the family home of the deceased doctor and spoke to them for quite some time. The police have kept the family under house arrest. They are not allowed to leave the house on the pretext of various excuses. The police have created a barricade around them, the CISF has no clue about this,” Chowdhury told reporters.

“He Kolkata Police Following the instructions of the state government, he had offered money to the father and told him that his daughter’s body should be cremated without delay,” Chowdhury alleged.

The body of the postgraduate student was found in the seminar room of the RG Kar State Medical College and Hospital in Calcutta on August 9. Young doctors have been on strike since that day, demanding justice for her and strict security measures in medical facilities.

The senior Congress leader was prevented by the police from entering the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital when he arrived there to meet the protesting junior doctors.

“I went there as a common person and not as a political leader to express my solidarity with them, but the police prevented me from meeting them… If they had acted so quickly earlier, our doctor sister would not have suffered this fate,” Chowdhury said.

A civic volunteer of the Kolkata Police was arrested for his alleged involvement in the crime.

The CBI is now investigating the matter on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
