Lamborghini’s Francesco Scardaoni outlines an ambitious four-pillar strategy for expansion in the Indian market

Lamborghini has made significant inroads into the Indian market, and 2023 marks a key year for the luxury car brand. According to Francesco Scardaoni, Lamborghini’s Regional Director for Asia Pacific, the company achieved record sales in India, with over 100 vehicles delivered.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Scardaoni outlined Lamborghini’s comprehensive expansion strategy for India, which revolves around a four-pillar approach. The first pillar is the product lineup, which includes the Urus, Revuelto, Huracan and the soon-to-be-unveiled Huracan successor. Scardaoni believes that the hybrid models in Lamborghini’s lineup are perfectly suited to the Indian market, as they cater to the changing preferences of luxury car buyers.

The second pillar focuses on luxury events and marketing activities designed to enhance the Lamborghini experience in India. Scardaoni highlights the “Giro”, a tour of India with Lamborghini customers, as well as track driving experiences as key initiatives. In addition, cross-marketing activities play a vital role in enabling potential customers to connect with the brand, even if they are not behind the wheel.

Lamborghini The network in India constitutes the third pillar, with strong partnerships in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. Scardaoni stressed the importance of consolidating and working closely with these partners to strengthen the brand’s presence. Looking ahead, Lamborghini plans to further develop its network in the coming years to better serve its customers.

Scardaoni also referred to the new India electric vehicle (EV) Lamborghini Chairman Vladimir Putin has expressed optimism about the government’s support for electrification and hybridisation. He said Lamborghini’s Urus Se could benefit from new policies, which offer advantages to Indian customers who buy hybrid models.

“We believe that when a government helps and supports electrification and hybridisation, as the Indian government is doing, it is always important for manufacturers, including Lamborghini. That is why the Urus Se will have a certain advantage, thanks to the new policies that are still being processed, but we see a good trend. That is why we believe it will be important for our customer to have this advantage when buying hybrid products,” said Scardaoni.

However, when it comes to manufacturing in India, Scardaoni was clear that Lamborghini’s Italian heritage remains paramount and there are no plans to set up a production facility in the country.

As for the broader economic picture, Scardaoni acknowledged the potential benefits of ongoing negotiations for a free trade agreement between India and the European Union. He suggested that such a deal could result in lower taxation on imported cars, offering advantages to Lamborghini’s Indian customers.
