LG Saxena: Desilting of three arterial drains in Delhi is underway in full swing

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Sunday said desilting of three arterial drains in the national capital is progressing steadily and assured that similar work is being carried out on other drains as well.

In a series of posts on X, Saxena said he inspected the ongoing desilting work in the Sunehri, Kushak and Barapulla drains.

He said work began after his first visit to the site on August 4, when rains had flooded large swathes of areas in his catchment.

“The clearing, dredging and cleaning of the right-of-way of the three drains continues at full speed with high-tech machines 24 hours a day,” he said.

“Three weeks later, changes have begun to be noticed, as drains have started to flow unhindered. This is also reflected in the noticeable reduction in the intensity of flooding in neighbouring areas,” he said in X.

So far, around 5,009 metric tonnes of sludge, garbage and waste have been removed from these drains by different agencies, he said.

“There is still a lot of work to be done and I am committed to taking up the task of cleaning not just these three but all the major drains in Delhi one by one,” he added.
