Young Indian batsman Sarfaraz Khan has spoken about Rohit Sharma’s impact on the Indian cricket team, and has named the Indian captain as Aamir Khan’s lead character in the Bollywood blockbuster ‘Lagaan’. The 26-year-old batsman claimed that Rohit treats everyone with equal respect and always creates a pleasant atmosphere in the dressing room.
Sarfaraz Khan started playing for India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. The Mumbai-based batsman received his first call-up for India in the Test squad during the home series against England in 2024. Mumbai-based batsman Sarfaraz had a brilliant series where he collected 200 runs in three matches with the help of three fifties.
“He is very different. He makes you feel very comfortable. Rohit Sharma is like an elder brother. We really enjoyed playing with him. I first saw him from the outside, now I have played with him to experience it. He doesn’t treat us like juniors, he treats everyone equally,” Sarfaraz Khan told Jio Cinema ahead of India’s Test series against Bangladesh.
“Lagaan is my favourite film. Like Aamir Khan, who was part of the team in the film, for me Rohit Sharma is like Aamir Khan to this team,” he added.
Rohit Sharma has so far led the Indian team in 16 Test matches since replacing Virat Kohli in 2022. Young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel also praised Rohit Sharma.
“When we watched him on TV, people would say, ‘He has a lot of time (to play his pitches).’ But, when you watch him up close, you realize that the pitches you have trouble with, the pitches your bat doesn’t flow properly with, he easily sends them into the stands. His pull shot is very famous. Seeing these things up close is special. He’s a GOAT,” Jurel said.
