Machines worth crores are rusting on the road and in the central laboratory of Rourkela Government Hospital.

Rourkela. Following the dismissal of hospital director Mohit Srivastava on charges of corruption at Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH), cases of irregularities are coming to light one after another. Machines purchased for thousands of rupees from the District Mining Institute (DMF) fund and CSR funds of various companies are rotting away in warehouses and laboratories. Some machines have also gone missing. Management officials and some doctors are suspected to be involved in this. It is noteworthy that machines worth thousands of rupees were purchased from DMF and other funds and installed at Pathlab for various tests. A private company ‘Krishna Diagnostics’ has been entrusted with the responsibility of managing the ‘Nidan’ scheme. This institution charges Rs 15-20 lakh per month from RGH for various tests. Patients complained that they were unable to provide the services. Pathlab was provided with an automatic analyser machine and other machines for testing patients from DMF funds. But for several months now, the machine has not been available. So it is being investigated whether it was stolen or sold to another person.

The central laboratory is closed and machines worth millions of dollars are unusable

A similar situation has arisen in Central Labs like Pathlab. This lab was inaugurated last year in 2021-22. DMF and NSPCL provided state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. Apart from this, the lab has equipment worth crores of rupees including sodium, biochemical analyser, microscope, CBC, over five refrigerators and computers. The responsibility of managing the lab was handed over to the organisation ‘Techmed’. However, the company was blacklisted due to its poor service. But after two months, the central lab was shut down. Machines worth crores of rupees were rotting in the lab for about three years but the RGH officials were not even aware of it. While some machines in the lab are switched off, others are missing.

A committee has been formed to examine the machines.

When the concerned officer was asked about this, he could not give any satisfactory answer. But RGH director Dr Manoj Upadhyay said that it is not known where the automatic analysis machine of Pathlab went. If there was theft, it is being investigated why the departmental official did not report it at the police station. A committee has been formed to check whether the machines at the Central Laboratory are fine or not. After the investigation, detailed information about the machines will be available.
