On Sunday, the Islampur-bound Magadh Express train broke down near Raghunathpur station in Buxar district of Bihar and split into two parts – 13 coaches and 9 coaches. The train got uncoupled between coach No. S-7, the 13th coach from the locomotive, and coach No. S-6, the 14th coach from the locomotive between Twininganj and Raghunathpur on the down line while passing through Twiniganj.

Dumraon DSP Afaq Akhtar Ansari said, “The train broke into two due to a breakage in the coupling. All passengers are safe. It is a matter of investigation to find out why the coupling broke.”

East Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Sharswati Chandra said no one was injured in the incident that occurred between Twiniganj and Raghunathpur railway stations in Buxar district.

The incident occurred at around 11:08 a.m. and rail traffic was restored at 2:25 p.m., he added. The incident disrupted rail traffic for more than three hours on the route.

“The restoration work, including coupling of Magadh Express (20802) from New Delhi to Islampur, was completed and the same train departed from the site at 2.25 pm…after which movement of other trains on the down line was also permitted,” the CPRO said.

A rescue team and technical teams immediately reached the spot and fixed the problem, the CPRO said.
