Make your own garlic and chilli oil for momos, noodles and more

Chili garlic oil is one of the best condiments if you don’t like too many herbs and spices. You won’t believe how easy it is to make at home. It’s surprisingly quick to prepare and tastes just like restaurant chili garlic oil.

You can drizzle garlic and chili oil over noodles, salads or even use it as a dipping sauce for your favorite momos.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup avocado oil or vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves of garlic, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon crushed red chili flakes

Instructions

  • Add crushed red chili flakes to a small heatproof bowl and set aside. I like to use crushed red pepper flakes, but there are many varieties that will work too!
  • Heat 1/4 cup oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Once hot, add the thinly sliced ​​garlic and fry, stirring frequently, until the garlic begins to brown, about 2 minutes.
  • Stir in the sesame seeds and cook for another minute until the garlic is crisp and toasted. Be careful not to overcook the garlic as it will continue to crunch once you remove it from the heat.
  • Carefully transfer the mixture to the bowl with the red pepper flakes. Mix well and let cool.
  • Use it as a dipping oil for dumplings or potstickers, as a base oil or to drizzle over ramen noodle bowls and soups, and as an oil for stir-frying vegetables and proteins. Enjoy!
