Male cancer rates will rise by 84% and deaths will double in the next 25 years, according to a new study

Global Male cancer Cases are expected to increase by 84%, from 10.3 million in 2022 to 19 million in 2050, according to a new study. Cancer-related deaths among men are also projected to nearly double, rising by 93%, from 5.4 million in 2022 to 10.5 million in 2050.

Researchers analyzed 30 types of cancer, using population data from 185 countries and territories, to predict cancer cases and death rates among men by 2050. These results were shared in a study in a journal associated with the American Cancer Society.

According to the studyMen experience higher rates of cancer and related deaths largely due to their higher tobacco use and alcohol compared to women.

They examined 30 cancer types in 2022 and projected outcomes to 2050. At the same time, they acknowledged a lack of detailed global data on cancer disparities in men by age and country.

Men are often exposed to harmful substances at work and are less proactive about getting cancer screenings. Research also indicates that older men, particularly those aged 65 and over, have lower survival rates than younger men.

This is attributed to factors such as late diagnosis, lower tolerance to treatment, and financial barriers to healthcare.

Prostate cancer will increase by 136%

Researchers anticipate that prostate cancer deaths will increase by 136% between 2022 and 2050. They attribute this increase to men aging and having longer life expectancy, which provides more time for cancer to progress.

By 2050, skin cancer is expected to cause more deaths and bladder cancer will become more common and deadly.

Cases of mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive cancer that affects the lining of the lungs and other organs, are expected to see the biggest increase among cancer types. It is expected to grow by 105% by 2022. This increase is linked to both an aging population and exposure to asbestos.
