West Bengal: Manoj Pant has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of the state. Manoj Pant’s name was announced through the notification issued by Nabanna on Saturday. He has also taken charge from today. It is to be noted that the three-month extension of Chief Secretary BP Gopalika was completed today. The state government had requested the Centre for another three-month extension but did not get the Centre’s approval. After failing to get the approval, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chose Manoj Pant as the new Chief Secretary.

Gopalik’s tenure as Chief Secretary ended on May 31. Manoj Pant holds the post of Chief Secretary of the state at a time when the state is going through social unrest. His influence has been in the political and administrative spheres as well. Many people in the administrative circle believe that dealing with this situation is the biggest challenge for Manoj at the moment.
Manoj took on a huge responsibility in 24 hours
The Chief Minister made some changes at the administrative level on Friday. Within 24 hours, Manoj was given a huge responsibility. The responsibilities of many other officers in Nabanna were also changed on Friday. Prabhatkumar Mishra replaced Manoj on the post of Secretary, Finance Department. Prabhatkumar was the Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resources Department. Manoj took over as Secretary, Irrigation Department. However, within 24 hours he was made Chief Secretary. Roshni Sen, an Additional Chief Secretary level officer, was Secretary, Fisheries Department for a long time. She has been given additional charge of Water Resources Development Department.
