Maruti Suzuki India on Sunday reported a 4 per cent year-on-year decline in total sales in August at 181,782 units.
The company had shipped 189,082 units in the same month last year, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.
Total domestic passenger vehicle wholesale sales were 143,075 units last month, compared with 156,114 units in the previous month, a drop of 8 percent, it added.
Sales of the mini segment, which includes the Alto and S-Presso models, fell to 10,648 units last month from 12,209 units a year earlier.
Sales of compact cars, including the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis and Swift, declined 20 per cent to 58,051 units compared to 72,451 units in the same month last year.
Utility vehicles, comprising Grand Vitara, Brezza, Ertiga, Invicto, Fronx and XL6, recorded sales of 62,684 units last month, compared to 58,746 units previously.
Sales of the Eeco were 10,985 units last month, up from 11,859 units in the same period last year, while sales of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle were 2,495 units, up from 2,564 units previously.
MSI said its exports last month rose to 26,003 units compared with 24,614 units in the same month last year.
