NEET MBBS Admission 2024: The MBBS admission of over 100 students at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has come under scrutiny. BFUHS has received several complaints stating that many students submitted fake domicile certificates to get admission to Punjab state quota MBBS seats. Out of the total 1,550 MBBS seats in the state, 10 medical colleges offer around 1,200 state quota seats. The domicile certificate is a very important official document for admission to state quota MBBS seats in any state. This confirms a person’s residence in a specific state. This certificate is proof of a person’s permanent residence.
State quota seats in Punjab are reserved for the natives of the state. In recent years, cases of students from other states being admitted here in state quota MBBS seats through fake domicile certificates are coming to light. Due to this, students who are natives of Punjab and are actually entitled to state quota seats are being deprived of admission. For these 1,200 state quota MBBS seats, there are 5,721 applicants in the first round of counselling.
Students hailing from different parts of Punjab and their parents have lodged a complaint with the BFUHS officials alleging that the names of many candidates for state quota seats have also been included in the merit list of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat joining together, thus claiming to be genuine residents of these states.

As per the rules, a candidate cannot apply for a state quota in more than one state. The complaint states that over 100 students who took admission in the MBBS course of the university obtained more than one domicile certificate.
As per rules, for admission to state quota MBBS course seats in Punjab, all candidates and their guardians are required to submit an affidavit that they are not availing the benefit of residency in any other state or union territory for admission to the MBBS course. A senior official of the medical college said that after receiving several complaints, BFUHS has started investigating the certificates issued by the dubious candidates and sought clarification from them regarding their names in the merit lists of other states.
BFUHS Vice Chancellor Dr Rajeev Sood said that complete fairness and transparency will be maintained in the allotment of MBBS seats and no fraud will be allowed at any cost.
Similar cases had surfaced last year at BFUHS as well. Many students wanted to get admission in the MBBS and BDS state quota seats by issuing domicile certificates from more than one state. They had issued domicile certificates from more than one state. These candidates had tried to avail the benefit of state quota for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in more than one state by giving wrong addresses.
