MeToo row in Mollywood: NCW expresses concern over Hema Committee report, seeks comprehensive findings

New Delhi: Taking note of the allegations of sexual abuse and harassment of the Hema Committee Reportthe National Commission for Women (NCW) said it had requested the full report, only parts of which are publicly available.

In a statement, the women’s organisation said: “The Commission is committed to stepping up its efforts to address these issues with the relevant authorities to ensure that women’s rights are respected and a safe and equitable working environment is fostered within the industry.”

“…the NCW has taken steps to seek the full Hema Committee Report as it appears that only parts of it are currently available in the public domain,” it said.

The Justice Hema Committee was constituted by the Kerala government after a case of assault on an actress in 2017. Its report on the Malayalam film industry It points out workplace harassment, gender-based discrimination and other forms of exploitation of women.

Following allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation that surfaced against several actors and directors, the state government announced on August 25 the creation of a seven-member special investigation team to probe them.
