Microsoft buys 16.4-acre plot worth Rs 520 crore in Pune’s IT hub Hinjawadi

Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of the company led by Satya Nadella Microsofthas acquired a 16.4 acre land plot for Rs 520 crore in Pune’s Hinjewadi area.

This is Microsoft’s second major land purchase in the city, following its acquisition of a 25-acre plot in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area for Rs 328 crore two years ago.

With the latest transaction, the US-based company has invested a total of Rs 848 crore in Pune for land acquisitions.

Expanding data center footprint

The tech giant has been making real estate investments across the country to support its growing needs for cloud services and digital infrastructure.

The Pune deal is part of a broader strategy by Microsoft to enhance its data storage capabilities and ensure compliance with data localization regulations.

Location of the land

The deal, which was registered in August 2024 with Indo Global Infotech City LLP, attracted a stamp duty of Rs 31.18 crore and was officially registered on September 6.

The land is located in the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, a major IT hub that houses several technology companies.

Microsoft’s Previous Real Estate Investments in India

Earlier this year, Microsoft also acquired 48 acres of land in Hyderabad for Rs 267 crore.

With over 23,000 employees in India, Microsoft is already a major player in the Indian technology landscape. The company operates data centers in key locations such as Pune, Mumbai and Chennai.

In addition to its real estate investments, Microsoft is also focused on upskilling the Indian workforce. Through its ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA program, it aims to train two million people in digital and AI skills by 2025, which will further support India’s transition to a digitally empowered society.
