Mitchell Santner He once again proved why he is considered one of the best fielders on the international circuit as the Kiwi helped his Northern Superchargers side defeat London Spirit opener Michael Pepper in match number 29 of the 2024 Men’s Hundred season on Tuesday, August 13.
After electing to play first, Northern Superchargers put a lot of pressure on Pepper and deprived him of boundaries. Frustrated with the scoreboard pressure, Pepper decided to throw left-handed speedster Reece Topley to the ground but failed to get the pace right.
The ball rose into the air and went high but not far. Santner, who was in the mid-on area, ran towards the long-on fence and leapt into the air to make a spectacular catch. Santner’s acrobatic effort stunned the spectators and even his team-mates, who ran towards him to celebrate the dismissal.

Santner also did very well with the ball in hand and conceded just 14 runs in his 15-ball spell. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid was the best of all the Northern Superchargers bowlers and claimed three runs while giving away just 16 runs. Matthew Potts (2/18) and Topley (2/25) claimed two wickets each and supported Rashid quite well to restrict London Spirit to just 111 for the loss of eight wickets. Rashid was awarded the Player of the Match (POTM) honour.
While veteran all-rounder Ravi Bopara top-scored for London Spirit with 31 off 29 balls, it was opener Keaton Jennings who stood head and shoulders above the rest of the Spirit batsmen. Jennings quickly hit 30 off just 12 deliveries with the help of three fours and two sixes. He batted at a strike rate of 250.00 and attempted to set the tone for his team up front.
However, Jennings’ effort was in vain as the Superchargers won the match by 21 runs to keep their elimination hopes alive.
