A special PMLA court in Ahmedabad filed criminal charges under the anti-money laundering law against TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale on Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate said.
“The Principal District and Sessions Judge, Ahmedabad (Rural) and the PMLA designated Special Court, Ahmedabad today framed criminal charges against Saket Gokhale, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and National Spokesperson of All India Trinamool Congress, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002…” the central agency said in a statement.
He said the 31-year-old lawmaker was charged last year under anti-money laundering laws.
“Charges have also been filed against him for the offence under the police case (Gujarat Police),” he said.
The special court also rejected the application filed by Gokhale under Section 309 of the CrPC to keep the proceedings under PMLA, 2002 in abeyance till the court decides the scheduled offence case registered against him, the ED said.

The state police had arrested Gokhale in Delhi in December 2022 in a case of alleged misuse of money he had raised through crowdfunding.
The chief executive told the court that “huge amounts of money raised through crowdfunding (by Gokhale) have been squandered on speculative trading in shares, food and wine and other personal expenditure which appears to be extravagant in nature.”
Gokhale, however, denied misusing the funds.
