Gambhir’s other support staff members are assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach Ryan Ten Doeschate, who worked with him at Kolkata Knight Riders, while Morkel was with him at Lucknow Super Giants.
Morkel was Gambhir’s preferred choice, having worked with him at LSG during Gambhir’s two IPL seasons as a franchise mentor.
“The mandate of the Cricket Advisory Committee was to interview candidates for the post of head coach. When it came to choosing the support staff, Gambhir’s choice had to prevail. He has worked with Morne and holds him in high regard as a bowling coach,” a BCCI source said. PTI-English.
“Also, with the big series against Australia looming Down Under from the last week of November, there is no better option than the South African, who has enjoyed good success there. Plus, there is a five-match tour of England next year with a possible sixth match if India reach the final of the World Test Championship,” the source added.
According to the PTI According to the report, the names of Balaji and Vinay were not even considered once it became clear that Morkel would be the one to carry forward the decent work done by Mhambrey.
