Jharkhand Tourism: Maa Bhadrakali Temple is a confluence of three religions

Bhadrakali Temple located in Itkhori block of Jharkhand was built in the 9th century. The history of this temple is linked to the Pala dynasty. Situated on the banks of Mahane River amidst mountains and forests, Maa Bhadrakali Temple is a unique confluence of three religions. This place is famous as the birthplace of the adorable Goddess Maa Kali of Hinduism, the revered Maa Tara of Buddhism and Swami Shitalnath ji, the 10th Tirthankara of Jainism in Bhadalpur. This temple is also known as Bhaduli Mata Temple.

The Bhadrakali temple complex built in the 9th century is magnificent. The 1008 Shivalingas engraved on the Sahasra Shivalingas present in the temple premises enhance the beauty of this temple. By offering water on these thousand Shivalingas made by carving a single stone, Jalabhishek of all 1008 Shivalingas is performed simultaneously. A huge statue of Nandi is installed in front of this single Shivalinga. The ruins of this ancient temple built by carving sandstone are proof of its glorious history. The antiquities found during excavations conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India are preserved in the temple museum. The statue of Mother Bhadrakali installed in this temple has been made by carving precious black stones. This statue is about 5 feet in height and in it the Mother Goddess is seen in a quadrangular form. It is written in Brahmi script at the feet of Mother Bhadrakali that the temple was built by King Mahendra Pal II in the 9th century. The Maa Bhadrakali Temple of Itkhori is a sacred place of the Hindu religion.

The Department of Archaeology describes this stupa as being from the 9th century. A statue of Lord Buddha in the Maha Parayana posture is also present here. This is the reason why this place is also a sacred place for the people of Buddhism.

The temple museum contains the footprints of Swami Shitalnath, the tenth Tirthankar of Jainism, which was found during excavation. During the excavation, a copper vessel was also found here. On this figure it was said in Brahmi script that this place is the birthplace of Swami Shitalnath.
