What is the MUDA “scam”?

He Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), originally established as City Improvement Trust Board (CITB) Dating back to 1904, during the reign of the Maharajas of Mysuru, it has come under intense scrutiny recently. Media reports have highlighted serious irregularities in the way the MUDA has allotted residential plots to land losers as compensation.

Amidst the controversy, Parvathi Siddaramaiah, wife of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiahhas been in the spotlight. It was reported that he was allotted 14 residential plots in a high-end development zone in exchange for his 3 acres and 16 guntas of land acquired by MUDA.

While Siddaramaiah and Congress functionaries argue that the allotment of the site followed the legally sanctioned 50:50 ratio scheme meant to compensate land losers, much to the chagrin of Karnataka’s opposition, the BJP and the JD(S) have seized on this issue to criticise the ruling Congress.
