Mumbai family uses vintage Rolls Royce for Lord Ganesh immersion

Bombay: A Mumbai family used a vintage Rolls Royce to transport their idol of Lord Ganesh for immersion, drawing a sizeable crowd on Tuesday.

The family has been celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi for 11 years and rents a different vehicle every year for the immersion procession.

As the luxury car slowly moved towards Girgaum Chowpatty, onlookers gathered to witness the spectacle. Some even tried to engage the driver in conversation, who was still focused on reaching his destination.

Immersion processions began all over Mumbai and Maharashtra On Tuesday morning, marking the end of the 10 days Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The festival concluded with Anant Chaturdashi, a day of farewell to Lord Ganesh.

A family member said they use a different vehicle every year for the immersion procession and this year they rented the old Rolls Royce for the purpose.

“We are Jains and we have been installing the Ganesh statue in our house for 11 years,” he said. “Now that our beloved Ganpati Bappa is leaving, we have already started the countdown to the day when he will visit us again next year,” he added.

Processions for the immersion of idols of Lord Ganesh began in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra On Tuesday morning, amid tight security and celebrations, the 10-day festival came to an end.
