Neeraj Chopra finished third as he could not retain his Lausanne Diamond League title. This event was Neeraj’s first appearance since winning the silver medal at the Paris Olympics. Neeraj’s best attempt came on his last throw, as his javelin He covered a distance of 89.49 m, his best throw of the season so far.

Neeraj was the reigning two-time champion in Lausanne and a win would have given him three points in this event. Neeraj has suffered a groin injury and will decide whether to undergo surgery or not.

Chopra, 26, was in fourth place until the fourth round, before sending his spear 85.58m on his fifth attempt. He saved the best for last, as his sixth and final attempt measured 89.49m.

Two-time world champion and Paris Olympic bronze medallist Anderson Peters of Grenada won the event with his monstrous second-round throw of 90.61m, while Julian Weber of Germany took third place with 87.08m.

Chopra, who is suffering from a long-standing groin injury, won a silver at the Paris Olympics on August 8 with a throw of 89.45m, having won a historic gold at the Tokyo edition of the Games three years ago.
