NEP 2020 supports the idea of teaching Tamil in TN schools: Dharmendra Pradhan

Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan wrote to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin On Friday, expressing its full support for the National Education Policy (PNE) 2020 for teaching Tamil in schools across Tamil Nadu.

“The Centre is making concerted efforts to encourage multilingualism and mother tongue learning, while NET 2020 fully supports the idea of teaching Tamil in schools in Tamil Nadu. The government is committed to ensuring that every child, in every corner of the country, has access to the transformative benefits of the NEP,” the Union Minister wrote in his letter to the Chief Minister.

The Union Minister further noted that Tamil Nadu had initially agreed to sign the MoU for the Prime Minister’s SHRI Scheme in 2024-25. However, Tamil Nadu’s subsequent draft excluded important commitments related to the full implementation of the Prime Minister’s SHRI Scheme. PNE 2020.

“Despite repeated requests, Tamil Nadu is yet to sign the MoU for Prime Minister SHRI,” the Union Minister said.

He also urged the Tamil Nadu government to fulfil its commitment and sign the MoU for the PM SHRI programme. He highlighted that hundreds of thousands of Tamil students have already benefited from the Samagra Shiksha programme.

“Given the ongoing implementation of the Samagra Shiksha Scheme in Tamil Nadu aligned with NEP 2020, it is important that the state also adopts the PM SHRI Scheme to further improve the quality of education and set a benchmark for government schools in the region,” the letter added.
