The Ministry of Industry and Commerce summons the Netflix content manager over the dispute over the IC 814 series

The Government has summoned the content manager of the OTT platform Netflix for the series ‘IC-814: The Kandahar Hijacking“, which has sparked a controversy over the depiction of the kidnappers. According to official sources, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has summoned the content head of Netflix India on Tuesday to seek clarification on the allegedly controversial aspects of the OTT series.

The depiction of the hijackers of the Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Delhi has sparked a controversy among a section of viewers who are opposed to the “human” portrayal of the perpetrators. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said the IC-814 hijackers were dreaded terrorists, who took on aliases to conceal their Muslim identities.

“Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha legitimised his criminal intentions by promoting his non-Muslim names,” Malviya posted on X. “Decades later, people will think that Hindus hijacked IC-814,” she said.

“The Left’s agenda to whitewash the crimes of Pakistani terrorists, all Muslims, worked. This is the power of cinema, which the communists have been using aggressively since the 1970s. Maybe even before,” Malviya said.

“This will not only weaken and call into question India’s security apparatus in the long run, but will also deflect blame from the religious cohort, which is responsible for all the bloodshed,” he said.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said it was really funny to see people who took movies like “The Kashmir Files” as the absolute truth having a meltdown over the way the events of IC814 are depicted in the Netflix show.

“Now, all of a sudden, they want precision and nuance included in the script,” Abdullah said on X.
