NIRF Rankings 2024 Out, IIT Madras Retains Top Rank in Overall Category, Check List of Institutes Here

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has released the ninth edition of the annual India Rankings 2024 today. This year, IIT Madras has retained the top position in the overall category. IISC Bangalore has secured the second spot, followed by IIT Bombay in the third spot. NIRF 2024 Rankings Live Updates

The rankings were released for 16 different categories including general universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors, innovation, state university, skill university and open university.

In particular, the rankings of state universities, specialized universities and open universities are the latest additions to the NIRF ranking categories.

  6. AIIMS, NEW DELHI

  8. Guwahati Institute of Technology
  9. National University of Japan, New Delhi

The NIRF 2024 rankings were announced at an event organised at the Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled the ninth edition of the All India Rankings during the event.

The Ministry also plans to launch a Sustainability Rating Category from 2025.

It is worth mentioning here that the NIRF ranking methodology is based on the general recommendations arrived at by a Central Committee set up by the MHRD to identify general parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.

The Central Committee developed the Institute Ranking Methodology established by the Ministry of Health and Development of the Republic of Korea to identify the general parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters by which the institutes are ranked are teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusion, and perception.

In 2023, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras was ranked first in the overall category, followed by IISc Bangalore which was ranked second and IIT Delhi which was ranked third. IIT Madras scored 86.69% and was ranked first for the fifth time in 2023.

The NIRF was approved by the MHRD and launched on 29 September 2015.
