Nit Silchar News, Bangladeshi Muslim student from NIT Silchar liked an anti-India post, returned after leaving the institute over controversy: Bangladeshi Muslim students leave nit silchar after controversial social media post

Guwahati: A Bangladeshi Muslim student studying at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Silchar, Assam, liked an anti-India post on social media. The controversy started over the fact that he liked his post. People took screenshots on social media and demanded action against him. Meanwhile, after liking that post, he travelled to Bangladesh on Monday.

He has requested to leave Silchar NIT and return home. “The student crossed the international border between India and Bangladesh at Karimganj on Monday amid adequate security measures,” a senior police officer told ET on condition of anonymity.

NIT sources said the student herself had expressed her desire to return home for some time. She had applied for leave on Sunday. 70 Bangladeshi students are studying various subjects at Silchar NIT.

The director appealed

The management of National Institute of Technology Silchar has urged students of the institute to refrain from making anti-India or derogatory statements against the country.
Director of NIT Silchar, Prof. DK Baidya asked the students to maintain the academic decorum of the institute and not disturb the peace and harmony on the campus.

Institute active after anti-India publication

The principal’s appeal comes after an alleged anti-India post on social media by a former student of the institute. ‘I am aware of a post made by a former student who is no longer with us. I am told that he has left the country.

Pro. Baidya said on Sunday evening, “As per government policy, foreign students come to our institute for educational activities and it is our duty to maintain peace, law and order.” We appeal to our students not to make any objectionable or derogatory statements.

What did the policeman say?

Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP) Numal Mahatta told reporters that the cyber surveillance cell of the police has informed them of the matter.
He then visited the institute on Saturday at midnight to inspect the situation.

SP Mahatta said, ‘When I reached the institute, I came to know that the student who had posted this is an alumnus of the institute and is now living in Bangladesh. I have requested the institute authorities to take up this matter with the concerned authorities to ensure immediate action against the student who made objectionable remarks against India.
