‘No Dalit, tribal or OBC women in Miss India list,’ says Rahul Gandhi in caste census push

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday reiterated his demand for a nationwide caste census, saying 90 per cent of the country’s population is outside the system and the measure should be taken for their benefit. Gandhi also said the caste census is the basis and a tool for policy formulation of the Congress party if it comes to power.

“Ninety per cent of the people are outside the system. They have skills, knowledge, but they have no connections (with the system). That is why we have raised the demand for a caste census,” Gandhi said, addressing the ‘Samvidhan Samman Sammelan’ in Prayagraj. Uttar Pradesh.

“For the Congress, caste census is the basis of policy formulation. It is a tool for policy formulation. We cannot formulate policies in the reality of India without a caste census,” said Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha adding that like the ConstitutionThe caste census is a policy framework and a guide for the Congress.

A nationwide caste census was one of the promises in the Congress party’s manifesto ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “We want the data. How many Dalits, OBCs (Other backward classes“There are tribals, women, minorities and castes in general. We are trying to protect the Constitution with this demand for a caste census,” he added.

“…I checked the Miss India list to see if there was any Dalit or tribal woman in it, but there was no Dalit, tribal or OBC woman. Still, the media talks about dance, music, cricket, Bollywood, but they don’t talk about farmers and workers,” Gandhi was heard saying at the event.

He said that the Constitution is not for 10 percent of the country’s population, it is for all citizens.

“The Constitution is protected by the poor, the workers, the tribals and not by (industrialist Gautam) Adani. If 90 per cent of the people do not have the right to participate, the Constitution cannot be protected.

“Our goal is to protect the Constitution. It is a shield for the poor, the farmers and the workers. Without it, the situation would be like before, in the time of kings and emperors, who did what they wanted,” he said.

The former head of Congress denounced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi President Modi is trying to replicate the model of kings and emperors. “You (Modi) consider yourself non-biological. You consider yourself connected to God. You had to bow down to the Constitution right after the (Lok Sabha) elections. This was not done by us, but by the people,” he said.

Later, in a post on X, the Leader of the congress He said the caste census is aimed at building a policy framework to provide social justice and opportunities,” he said.
