Police responded to Valley View Mall in Roanoke, Virginia, following reports of a shooting and an active shooter. However, the Roanoke Police Department confirmed that no shots were fired.

Initial reports indicated that people at the mall heard what they believed to be gunshots around 7:15 p.m. Saturday. Police quickly arrived on the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. It was determined that the noise was caused by youths “banging on metal signs,” which was mistaken for gunshots. The investigation is ongoing, but authorities assured the public that there is no danger.

“This evening at approximately 7:10 p.m., law enforcement officers responded to reports of possible shots fired at the Valley View Mall, 4800 Valley View Blvd Northwest. Several people were observed running from the mall, prompting concern and calls to 911 reporting shots fired,” the Roanoke Police Department said in a statement on Facebook.
