Shubman Gill will not be available in T20I cricket series against Bangladesh; BCCI will likely call up THIS Mumbai Indians batsman: Report

According to a report by news agency PTI, India’s vice-captain and star T20 batsman Shubman Gill could be rested for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh starting next month. The report claims that the Indian team management expects Gill to play all 10 Test matches in the upcoming season and would like to give the youngster a much-needed break.

With Rohit SharmaVirat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja After retiring from T20Is after the 20-over World Cup, Gill has found a prominent place in the new-look India team, led by Suryakumar Yadav. Gill is also one of the few players to play all three formats consistently. In fact, Gill recently captained India in a 5-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, which they won 4-1.

The PTI report also claims that T20I is probably one of the least important formats at the moment, with Champions Trophy and World Test Championship matches against Australia and England coming up.

“Yes, Shubman will be rested for the Bangladesh T20I series. If you look at the schedule, the three T20Is will be played on October 7 (Gwalior), 10 (Delhi) and 13 (Hyderabad). Now, the first Test match against New Zealand starts on October 16… So, with a three-day turnaround, it is important to give Gill a rest,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.

Ishan Kishan to return to T20Is?

Apart from Gill, other Test players like Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah will also be rested for the T20I series. Meanwhile, the report also states that Rishabh Pant’s workload will be closely monitored given that the team needs him in the longest format of the game.

Reportedly, in case Pant is rested for the 3-match T20I series, Ishan Kishan could make his long-awaited return to the Indian squad. Notably, Kishan has been absent from action this year after not being available for selection for a series last year.
