After winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, India will be looking to add more ICC trophies to their tally, and their first chance to do so will be when they take the field for the ICC Champions Trophy which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2025. In this tournament, Rohit Sharma is aiming to become the second captain after MS Dhoni to win the trophy for India. With just one ODI series left before the tournament begins, we can get an idea of what India’s starting XI could look like.
The openers for the tournament will definitely be Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Rohit will be the captain of the team and Gill has been positioned as the vice-captain of the ODI team. This means that Yashasvi Jaiswal will not be in the starting eleven.
Virat Kohli will come in to bat at No. 3 and will look to have another great ICC tournament and score runs to deliver the trophy to India. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer will come in at No. 4 as the middle-order batsman looks to be a mainstay in the 50-overs team, even though he does not have a central contract.
Rishabh Pant will be the team’s first choice goalkeeper ahead of KL RahulHardik Pandya, who has been tasked with bowling 10 overs consistently in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, will be the team’s primary pace bowler. With no clear plans for Ravindra Jadeja in the ODI format, Axar Patel will be the team’s spin bowler.
