Nothing CEO Carl Pei announces full return to the office, says working from home is over

Nothing CEO Carl Pei has announced a significant change to the company’s London team, moving from a Hybrid work model is back to full operation in the office. In an email to employees, which he also shared on LinkedIn, Pei stressed that the decision is crucial for NothingThe company’s future growth and innovation. He acknowledged the company’s rapid progress, highlighting its achievement as the only new smartphone company established in the last decade and the fastest-growing smartphone brand in India, with a staggering 567% year-over-year growth. Despite these successes, Pei believes the company is only “0.1% of its potential.”

Pei highlighted three key reasons for returning to work in an in-person environment: the need for close collaboration on physical product development, the importance of creativity and innovation to remain competitive against larger companies, and the ambition to become a generation-defining tech company. He stressed that the nature of his work — designing and manufacturing physical products — requires a level of collaboration that is difficult to achieve remotely. Additionally, the rapid decision-making and problem-solving essential to his grand ambitions is better suited to in-person interactions.

In response to potential concerns about flexibility, Pei assured employees that the company trusts them to manage their time effectively, recognizing that they can accommodate occasional needs to be away from the office. The transition back to the office will take effect in two months, and Pei encouraged those who are uncomfortable with this arrangement to seek out environments where they can thrive.

Pei concluded by expressing his confidence in the team’s ability to continue building Nothing’s future, thanking them for their progress thus far and looking forward to the next stage of the company’s development.
