St. Petersburg: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval On Thursday, Putin met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, where he conveyed a special message and warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In response, Putin extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi for a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan on October 22.

“We are waiting for Mr. Modi in Kazan, I propose that we also hold a bilateral meeting on October 22,” Putin said during a meeting with Doval, according to Russian state news agency TASS. Doval, in turn, conveyed the prime minister’s words of gratitude. He also informed about Prime Minister Modi’s readiness to share information about his recent visit to Ukraine.

Why did Putin propose holding a bilateral meeting with PM Modi?

According to a statement released by the Russian Embassy in India, Putin sought a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi to sum up the results of joint work on the implementation of the agreements reached during his visit to Moscow and outline prospects for the near future.

It is noteworthy that Doval is in St. Petersburg to participate in the meeting of senior security officials of BRICS and BRICS Plus, which will be held on September 10-12. During the conversation, Putin noted the successful development of the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia and stressed the importance of security issues in bilateral relations, thanking the Indian side for maintaining dialogue in this area.

BRICS Summit

It is worth mentioning that the BRICS Summit will be held in the Russian city of Kazan in October. This event is expected to be crucial as leaders of the member countries are expected to participate in the meeting. Today, when Putin met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, he confirmed President Xi Jinping’s attendance at the upcoming summit. The agenda will likely cover the ongoing global energy crisis, security challenges, and strategies to enhance collaboration among the BRICS nations. Moreover, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine is also expected to dominate the Kazan Summit.
