NSP Scholarships 2024: Application Open, Check Eligibility for These Ministry of Education Schemes

The National Scholarship Portal, NSP, has started the application process for education scholarships for the academic year 2024-2025, offered by various central and state governments. Eligible candidates who are interested in applying for the scholarships can submit the application forms on the official website at scholarships.gov.in.

Notably, the NSP has opened applications for a total of 23 central government-sponsored scholarships.

In this article, we will review various scholarships offered by the Ministry of Education for school, college and university students.

Department of School Education and Literacy

Scholarship name: National Means and Merit Scholarship

Last date to apply: October 31, 2024

About the scheme:

According to NSP, the “National Means and Merit Scholarship Scheme under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, is awarded to meritorious students from economically weaker sections to arrest their dropping out of school in class VIII and encourage them to continue the study in the secondary stage.”

Under this plan, 100,000 meritorious students whose parental income does not exceed $3,50,000 are provided $12,000 per year ( $1,000 per month) from Class 9 to Class 12. Each state and UT has a fixed quota of scholarships for the concerned age group of classes 7 to 8.

Further, the scholarship will be awarded annually to students studying as regular students and entering class IX in government, government-aided or local body schools.

Selection process: Each state and UT will conduct their own test in class VIII for selection of students for the scholarship. The exam may be of two types:

  • Mental Ability Test (MAT)
  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

Eligibility:

  • The applicant must complete studies in approved courses.
  • They must maintain good conduct certified by the principal of the university/institution and pursue higher studies as a regular student in a government/government-aided school or a local body.
  • You must not be absent without proper authorization.
  • The applicant must pursue full-time studies.
  • There will be no scholarship available for study abroad for any course.
  • No claim for scholarship arrears will be accepted after 12 months of the academic period for which the claim has been requested.
  • In case any awardee abandons his/her course of study within one month of registration/admission, no scholarship will be paid to him/her.
  • In case a student cannot appear for the annual examination due to serious illness, he/she must send the medical certificate to the Director of the Institution within three months of his/her illness.
  • Students must join the next desired class/course within 3 months of the declaration of the result of the previous class/course.
  • The scholarship will be considered discontinued if a gap arises in the academic session at any time for any reason.
  • Scholarships once discontinued according to the scholarship disbursement rules cannot be reactivated under any circumstances.

2. Department of Higher Education

Scheme name: Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College and University Students

About the scheme:

The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from poor families to meet a portion of their daily expenses while pursuing higher education. The scholarship is awarded by the Ministry of Education based on the results of the Higher Secondary Board/Class XII examination.

A maximum of 82,000 new scholarships per year are provided for undergraduate or graduate degrees at colleges and universities and for professional courses, such as medicine, engineering and more.

According to NSP, the total number of scholarships is divided among the state education boards based on the population of the state in the age group of 18 to 25 years, after segregating the proportion of CBSE and ICSE based on the number of students taking They come from various boards in the country. 50% of the scholarships are intended for girls.

Eligibility:

The scholarship is available to students who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Students who are above the 80th percentile of selected candidates in the relevant stream of the respective examination board in Class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent.
  • You must be taking regular undergraduate courses, and not taking correspondence, distance or diploma courses.
  • Must pursue courses in colleges/institutions recognized by All India Council for Technical Education and respective regulatory bodies concerned.
  • You should not take advantage of the benefits of any other scholarship schemes, including state scholarship/fee waiver schemes and reimbursement schemes.
  • Students with gross parental/family income up to Rs. 4.5 lakh per year are eligible for scholarships under the scheme.
  • Only a certificate of income will be required for new applicants.
  • Students who change university/institute of study will be able to continue/renew the scholarship as long as the course of study and institution have a valid AISHE Code.
  • Students who have not applied for renewal of the online application in NSP will be able to apply for renewal of the scholarship for the following year in NSP if they meet the eligibility conditions for renewal.
