Odisha Cabinet approves 10% reservation for ex-firefighters, two other proposals

Odisha News: The Odisha government on Thursday approved 10 per cent reservation for ex-fire veterans in recruitment in security-related services like police, forest, excise, fire service etc. in the state. The government also allowed transfer of shares of Shapoorji Pallonji Port Maintenance Private Limited and Odisha Stevedores Limited to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ). After the Cabinet meeting, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja informed about these decisions at Lok Seva Bhawan. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said that the proposal in this regard was approved in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The Cabinet also approved the proposal to provide jobs to stepdaughters and unmarried women of government employees on compassionate grounds.

Exemption from physical efficiency test in direct hiring

The Odisha government had approved framing of rules related to 10 per cent reservation for ex-firefighters in security-related services. The proposed rules are aimed at providing opportunities to ex-firefighter veterans in police, forest, excise, fire or other security-related services. Earlier, the government had approved 10 per cent reservation in recruitment of ex-firefighter veterans for Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts in security-related services of the state. This reservation to Agniveers will be in addition to the reservation given to ex-servicemen on the basis of minimum qualification required for the posts as per relevant recruitment rules. In direct recruitment for Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts of security-related services, firefighters have been given three-year relaxation in the upper age limit and have also been exempted from the physical efficiency test.

Adani Ports will hold 95 per cent stake in the Gopalpur port project.

The chief secretary told reporters that Adani Ports had earlier bought a 56 per cent stake in Gopalpur port and a 39 per cent stake in Odisha Stevedores from real estate conglomerate Shapoorji Pallonji Group (SP Group). Adani Ports will hold a 95 per cent stake in the Gopalpur port project, while Odisha Stevedores will hold the remaining five per cent.
