18th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas: Next year, the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will be organized in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from January 8 to 10. Officers provided this information.
Officials said Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi gave his approval to organize the event.
A statement issued on Sunday said the event will be jointly organized by the Odisha government and the Ministry of External Affairs.
A five-member delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already visited the site to coordinate with state officials and several committees have been formed for the smooth development of the event, according to the statement.
The release reports that participants in the program include President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union Ministers and Majhi (Chief Ministers).
It was said that the Prime Minister is likely to participate in the main program on the second day of the event and flag off the ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Teerth Express’.
The government said more than 5,000 expatriate members from different countries are likely to attend the three-day conference. The NRIs and other dignitaries will be taken on a tour of various places in Odisha, where they will be introduced to the cultural heritage, historical importance and industrial potential of the state.
Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas is celebrated on January 9 to commemorate the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi in Mumbai from South Africa in 1915. Although the event began in 2003, it has been held every two years since 2015 to honor the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of the country. Its previous edition was held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
