This initiative is expected to benefit over 10 million women in Odisha, targeting women between the age group of 21 and 60 years.
Under the Subhadra Yojana, eligible women will receive Rs 50,000 over a period of five years. Beginning from the financial year 2024-25, beneficiaries will receive Rs 10,000 annually, which will be credited in two equal instalments to their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
On the launch day, funds will be credited into the accounts of over 10 lakh women, marking the beginning of this ambitious programme.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stressed that this scheme was part of the BJP manifesto in Odisha and is aimed at uplifting women economically.
Pradhan said, “Prime Minister Modi has given a great gift to the women of the state.”
Comparison with plans for women in other states
Subhadra Yojana joins the growing list of women-focused programmes across India.
The Ladli Behna Yojana program in Madhya Pradesh and the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin program in Maharashtra are examples of similar initiatives.
Ladli Behna Yojana of Madhya Pradesh
Initially, Rs 1,000 per month was provided to eligible beneficiaries. The scheme fee was later increased to Rs 1,250 per month.
Approximately 94% of the beneficiaries of the Ladli Behna programme in Madhya Pradesh are within the age group of 25 years and above.
The programme focuses primarily on supporting women in rural and disadvantaged areas, with the aim of improving their economic independence and meeting their basic needs.
Maharashtra’s Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin scheme offers similar benefits.
Under this programme, over one million women receive ₹1,500 per month as direct financial assistance.
The programme is aimed at women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Uttar Pradesh’s Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana provides financial support of ₹15,000 in instalments for the education and welfare of girls.
This plan covers various stages from birth to higher education, focusing on improving the overall well-being of girls.
Prime Minister’s programme for visit to Odisha
During his visit to Odisha, the Prime Minister will also interact with the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban.
He will then lay the foundation for several development projects worth Rs 3,800 crore in Bhubaneswar. The launch of Subhadra Yojana will be one of the key events of the day.
