Oklahoma State to use QR codes on helmets to help NIL fundraise

Oklahoma State will use QR codes on its helmets this season that will link to the team’s general fund to boost the program’s name, image and likeness pool.

The rollout will take place at the school’s season-opening home game against defending FCS champion South Dakota State on Aug. 31. The school believes it will be the first time a college football team will use QR codes during regular-season games.

The initiative is part of the “Saddle Up” campaign organized by Pokes With A Purpose.

“This is a revolutionary step to help keep Oklahoma State football at the top of the league,” said Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy. “It gives fans around the world the opportunity to make a real impact when it comes to supporting the NIL’s efforts for Cowboys football. I’m very excited about this opportunity for our players.”

The QR codes will be 1.5-inch-square stickers displaying each player’s name and number. They are not expected to be visible from the stands, but will be visible in close-up shots during broadcasts and in postgame photos posted on social media.

Codes will also be on each player’s bag tag. Players carry the bags during “The Walk” (the pre-game walk at Boone Pickens Stadium) and for travel.

Oklahoma State begins the season ranked No. 17 in the AP Top 25.
