Home favorite Renata Zarazua beat Anhelina Kalinina 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, and Kamilla Rakhimova advanced to face No. 3 seed Victoria Azarenka with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Aleksandra Kunic.
Top seed Jelena Ostapenko, fresh off her US Open doubles title with Lyudmyla Kichenok following her first-round loss to Naomi Osaka in the singles draw, is out of action until Wednesday.
The Guadalajara Open is a 500-level hard-court event on the WTA Tour this season and is played at the Pan American Tennis Complex.
