Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Health Department has found one person suffering from bird flu in Puri district. State Health Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling said that this case was found at Mangalpur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Puri district. Meanwhile, the health department has intensified monitoring and surveillance efforts in the affected areas, especially in Pipili and Satyawadi blocks. The outbreak of H5N1 is being closely monitored in these areas. Giving information about this, Dr Mahaling said that a report of a person testing positive for bird flu was received in Mangalpur CHC of Puri district. The health department has increased surveillance. The health department is prepared to deal with such a situation. Asha workers are going door-to-door to sensitize people and distribute Tamiflu medicine in the affected areas. N-95 masks are being distributed to the people. The health and livestock departments are working in coordination with each other. The Health Minister said that around 25,000 birds have been killed so far as part of containment measures.

Compensation will be granted to poultry farmers

Fisheries and Animal Welfare Minister Gokulanand Mallik on Wednesday said that poultry farmers who suffered losses due to bird flu will be compensated. He said that in this case the department is planning to give Rs 20 for small chickens and Rs 70 for big chickens as compensation to the farmers. The department has been directed to take precautionary measures to prevent further spread of bird flu. At the same time, in areas where bird flu is positive, the department has banned transportation of chickens, use of vehicles and fodder for chickens.
