OpenAI: OpenAI claims ChatGPT weekly users have grown to 200 million

AI Home OpenAI said Thursday that its chatbot ChatGPT Now it has more than 200 million weekly active users, double that of last fall season.

ChatGPT, launched in 2022, can generate human-like responses based on user input and had 100 million weekly active users. Open AI CEO Sam Altman said as much in November.

OpenAI said 92% of Fortune 500 companies are using its products and that usage of its automated Application Programming Interface, or API, which allows software programs to communicate with each other, has doubled since the launch of ChatGPT-4o mini in July.

GPT-4o mini is a small, cost-effective AI model that aims to make its technology more affordable and energy-efficient, allowing the startup to reach a wider group of customers.

ChatGPT has boosted the popularity of AI and driven a meteoric rise in the valuation of San Francisco-based OpenAI.

Separately, artificial intelligence startups OpenAI and Anthropic have signed agreements with the U.S. government for research, testing and evaluation of their AI models, the U.S. Artificial Intelligence Security Institute said earlier in the day.
