The passport application website will be unavailable for scheduled technical maintenance from 20:00 hours on 29 August to 06:00 hours on 2 September 2024. At this time, the Passport Seva portal will not be accessible to the public and government authorities including the Ministry of External Affairs and Regional Passport Offices. Appointments at passport offices on 30 August will be rescheduled.

Impact of downtime

The maintenance will affect all users of the Passport Seva portal, meaning they will not be able to book new appointments, check the status of their applications or access any other services offered through the site. Applicants will receive SMS notifications about the rescheduling of their appointments.

“The Passport Seva portal will be unavailable due to technical maintenance from Thursday, 29th August 2024, at 20:00 hrs IST to Monday, 2nd September, at 06:00 hrs IST. The system will be unavailable during this period for the citizens and all MEA/RPO/BOI/ISP/DoP/Police authorities. Appointments already booked for 30th August 2024 will be rescheduled accordingly and applicants will be informed,” a note on the Passport Seva portal read.

Reasons for maintenance

Scheduled maintenance is intended to improve the performance and reliability of the Passport Seva portal. These updates are essential to ensure that the system can handle the increasing volume of requests and deliver a smoother user experience.

Applicants requiring immediate assistance may contact Regional Passport Offices by email or phone, but response time may be slower than usual due to ongoing maintenance.
