ZacThe four-legged soldier has left an indelible mark on the 10th edition of the Indo-Sri Lanka Joint Military Exercise, Mitra Shakti, held at the Army Training School in Moduru Oya, Sri Lanka.
This Belgian Malinois, perfected in the prestigious school Faculty of dog training of RVC Center and College in Meerut, has emerged as an innovative force multiplier and first responder in a wide variety of counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.
As the center of attention, Zac has captivated everyone with his dazzling performance, showcasing his mastery in home interventions, jungle searches, laser-guided assaults, and area sanitization. With surgical precision, he navigates complex spaces, tracks targets with uncanny instinct, and strikes with pinpoint accuracy, eliminating threats with calculated finesse.
Major Rishi Sharma, commander of the dog detachment, praises Zac as “a tactical pioneer who is redefining the paradigm of modern warfare.”

At just two and a half years old, Zac has already mastered an impressive array of specialist skills, including urban warfare expertise at FIBUA (Fighting in urbanized area) methodical precision in CASO (Cord and Search Operation) and relentless drive in SADO (Search and Deployment Operation).
Their adaptability and finesse in jungle search and area sanitation are only matched by their technological know-how in laser-guided assaults and weapons recovery.
Zac’s expertise extends to radio-guided directional control, facilitating real-time video surveillance via cutting-edge tactical head-mounted cameras. The stealthy canine’s capabilities have earned him a coveted spot as a first responder on operations teams, giving Indian forces a decisive strategic advantage.
As part of Ex Mitra Shakti’s canine detachment, alongside Maj Rishi Sharma and ADT Pranjal Sakiya, Zac forms an unstoppable trio, forging new frontiers in modern warfare.
His legend will continue to inspire awe, as he patrols the shadows, ever vigilant, ever ready to strike.
Apart from Zac, the Indian contingent, which comprises 106 personnel, is represented by a battalion of Rajputana Rifles along with personnel from other arms and services. While the Sri Lankan contingent is represented by personnel from the Gajaba Regiment of Sri Lankan Army.
The joint exercise MITRA SHAKTI is an annual training event held alternately in India and Sri Lanka. The latest edition was held in Pune in November 2023.
The objective of the joint exercise is to enhance the joint military capability of both sides to conduct counter-insurgency operations in a sub-conventional scenario under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate. The exercise will focus on operations in a semi-urban environment.
